CAT124: EXHIBITION BUILDING
2015-
CAT124: EXHIBITION BUILDING is an ongoing experimental performance and exhibition series contemplating the intersections of pedagogy, para-institutional practice, labor, and institutional critique.
CAT124: EXHIBITION BUILDING takes the form of a performance/seminar and two exhibitions. The performance will take place over the 2016 winter quarter and will invite undergraduates at UC San Diego to participate in a ten-week series of workshops and dialogues around institutional practice and exhibition development.
The exhibitions are designed to complement each other with one exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the other at UC San Diego. The exhibition at MCASD will take place during week nine of the winter quarter and will present artworks and an exhibition developed by participants over the course of the performance.
The complementary exhibition at UC San Diego will include a group of sculptures, videos, and several collages that graphically portray the intersections of pedagogy, para-institutional practice, and labor. The works reflect the process of conceptualizing and implementing the performance, and the underlying goals of collaboration and dialogue proposed by the project.
CAT124: EXHIBITION BUILDING was developed in dialogue with and support from UC San Diego’s Sixth College’s Culture, Art and Technology program and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
